The Law Offices of Kenneth W. DeJean is proud to stand with survivors of sexual abuse. We understand the courage it takes to come forward, and we are here to support you. If you or a loved one experienced sexual abuse - whether recently or in the past - you may now have an opportunity to seek justice, even if the abuse happened years ago. Very few perpetrators of sexual abuse are held criminally responsible, but a civil claim can provide justice and compensation for victims.
What Is a Sexual Abuse Claim?
A sexual abuse claim is a legal action taken by a survivor against the person or institution responsible for the abuse. These claims can help hold individuals, organizations, or institutions-such as churches, schools, youth organizations, or employers-accountable for their failure to protect vulnerable individuals from harm.
You are not alone. Many survivors in Louisiana are now stepping forward thanks to a new law that provides a rare chance to file claims, no matter how long ago the abuse occurred.
Louisiana's Lookback Window - Time is Limited
The Louisiana Supreme Court has ruled that a lookback window established in 2021 to give child abuse survivors more time to file lawsuits is constitutional. The legislature has extended the lookback window until June 14, 2027. This means that if you were sexually abused as a child in Louisiana - regardless of when it occurred - you have until June 14, 2027 to take legal action. This law empowers you to finally hold abusers and the negligent institutions that protect them, accountable.
